Classicus Zahir aka Marley
With our beautiful rescue Robbie doing so well at the shows Alan and I decided to get a Saluki to show at Championship show level. We visited a couple of shows to meet up with friends, Vicky and Andrew who we met at the Saluki Rally. We went to Crufts to see all of the beautiful hounds and looked on breeder's websites. Trying to find one at this time was really quite difficult they were as rare as hen's teeth. We were aware of the 'Classicus Saluki's' as we had previously spoken to Jeanna Jaques. A year later we found out by chance that Emma was due to have her pups and that we would be kept informed of the progress. On 22nd June 2006, Marley along with 6 brothers were born, the 'Magnificent Seven'. As soon as Jeanna sent me pictures of the puppies only hours old, I wanted the beautiful Grizzle boy. As others had 1st choice I was beside myself as this beautiful puppy was the one I had my heart set on.
Alan and I, along with Robbie, set out on our journey, we stayed in a Travelodge overnight and arrived at Jeanna's home on Monday 21st August 2006. We met Emma and their grandmother who, for Salukis, were rather friendly, we were then introduced to the puppies...I wanted them all. Marley has always been a loner, all the pictures that were sent to me, Marley was always on his own! I got my beautiful Grizzle boy and then time to introduce him to Robbie. Robbie, always the gentleman, was brilliant. We said our goodbyes to Jeanna promising Marley would have a wonderful, permanent, caring home , which of course he has.

We started the long journey home, having read all we could on puppies and travelling, Alan (and the car) was covered with sheeting so that if he was sick no one would get covered with it. We only got out of Jeanna's drive when the howling started, OMG we could not drive 100s of miles with that carry on. Alan cuddled him and the howling stopped, we set off and got to Scotch Corner and gave them a toilet stop, back in the car and carried on with our journey. We arrived home with a very well behaved puppy and began to settle him down.
We started out at Ringcraft where Marley did not have an enjoyable time, he was terrorised by a Pug every time we would go by, needless to say he hated the show ring, but we thought we would persevere. We attended our first show at 8 months of age but he was certainly no showman, however he had three Best Puppy In Breeds and was only beaten once in junior.
'The couch aint big enough Mummy!'
Marley remains out of the show ring due to us campaigning his house mate, Ch Classicus Cassander JW ShCM known to his friends as Dexter seen here on the left of the picture.....
